KALORAMA:

Overview:

While this elegant neighborhood got its name, which means “beautiful view,” from the first estate built here in 1809, development of the area didn’t take place until around 1890, when palatial mansions and Beaux-Arts townhouses began to be built. Today, many of the mansions have become embassies, chanceries, museums and private clubs, but many of the townhouses, some having 6-7 bedrooms, remain and make up some of the most sought-after upper brackets residences in the District. There are also fine residences to be had in the large, Old World apartment buildings. The neighborhood is bounded by Massachusetts Avenue, Rock Creek Park, Connecticut Avenue and Florida Avenue. Price Range: $700,000-$4,000,000 (Apartments: $350,000 – $2,500,000).
